HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — St. Patrick’s Day is exactly two months away, and some people in the New Haven area are already planning for it.
Runners braved Sunday morning’s cold weather and warmed up in the Save the Parade 5K. The race, which was held in Hamden, raises money to support the Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Organizers were hoping that 60 runners would show up – and more than 200 ran in the race. Volunteers say the 5K and the parade are great ways to bring the community together.
“It’s exciting to see how many people came out,” said Chris Dickerson, who was volunteering at the race. “It’s so cold out here but people are tough. They came out here to run. It inspires me.”
The Greater New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Sunday, March 13.
