WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — It’s hard to believe but the holiday season is almost here. People in West Haven are already reaching out to help the less fortunate.
They held a food drive called Cocoa for Food. Folks brought non-perishable food to donate and got a cup of hot cocoa in exchange. Some stopped by with donations before the event even started. Organizers were looking for foods that are easy to prepare, like canned soups, as well as anything that could be a part of a Thanksgiving dinner. They also collected food for pets.
“Approaching this time of year we’re going to see a lot of roofers and construction workers being laid off,” said Donna Rzasa, the event coordinator. “This food is what really helps get their family through the winter months, through the holidays.”
Donations were given to W.H.E.A.T., a food pantry in West Haven, where they will help feed people locally.
