HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Quinnipiac University students spent the day giving back to the community.

The Big Event is a day of community service for students, staff and faculty. This year a record 1,800 students rolled up their sleeves. They gave more than 100 sites in the surrounding area, including Sleeping Giant State Park, a spring cleaning.

Students say it’s a great way to bring the community together.

“It’s just unifying the connection between Quinnipiac and Hamden,” said Thomas Frotton, an event co-chair. “It’s just giving back and saying thank you for everything they do for us throughout the year.”

Quinnipiac University students weren’t the only ones giving back today. Colleges and universities across the country take part in The Big Event.
