(WTNH) — It was a big day for anglers across Connecticut, as trout fishing season kicked off on Saturday.
Anglers started fishing early this morning. More than 370,000 trout had already been stocked for them.
“It’s been a family tradition,” said Andrew Vallombroso, President of Andy’s Custom Bass Lures. “My father got me out fishing I think before I could walk. And he taught me just about every aspect of fishing. I’m 61 years old now and I haven’t missed Opening Day.”
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection restocked four designated Trout Parks this morning as well.
News 8 stopped by Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford, which is one of those parks. Anglers helped stock the fish. It’s something many fishing enthusiasts look forward to very year on Opening Day.
“To see the look on the kids’ faces when we hand them the fish and they’re putting them in the water, and then a few minutes later they’ll be catching the fish – maybe not the same ones they put in – but still it’s great to see them. Just the look on their face is priceless,” said Tony Petrillo, a fisheries biologist.
DEEP has stocked 11 trout parks across the state – and expects to stock more than 600,000 trout this season.
