NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Most Christians celebrate Easter Sunday today, and many were up before the sun this morning to attend church services.

Dozens of people came together at the East Rock Park summit in New Haven for a sunrise service. It was held by the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument – overlooking New Haven as the sun came up. The early morning service was a way to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Church leaders say they hope the service was a way to bring people together on Easter Sunday.

“To see the wonderful view of New Haven below us and to be right on the top of this amazing rock that I see from my home every day and to be gathered with Christians of other congregations is a marvelous thing,” said Susan Reisinger, Interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church in New Haven.

Parishioners and leaders from First Presbyterian Church, First & Summerfield United Methodist Church in New Haven and Hamden Plains United Methodist Church in Hamden as well as the New Haven Salvation Army were at the sunrise service.
