(WTNH) — The Connecticut Fire Marshals’ Association has a new tool to keep the public safe.
The fire extinguisher training system is all digital. The Fire Equipment Manufacturers’ Association donated it. People use a mock fire extinguisher with a laser in it to put out the digital flames on a screen. Fire marshals will use it all across Connecticut to show people how to use a fire extinguisher and when to use it, and when to get out of the building and call 911.
“Years ago you had ten to twelve minutes to get out of a fire and now you have less than three,” said Fire Marshal Keith Flood of the West Haven Fire Department. “If you can catch an incipient stage fire or a grease fire on a stove and you have the proper extinguisher you can put that fire out without getting yourself hurt.”
The system costs about $10,000 and it isn’t something that every fire department can afford. Officials hope this system will make it possible for more people to be trained.
