WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH)– Sunday is the first day of spring and some businesses in Connecticut are celebrating. Rita’s Italian Ice is one of them. Customers who stop in Sunday will get a free Italian ice.

News 8’s Renee Chmiel was at the Rita’s shop in West Haven to tell us how they are celebrating the start of spring there in the video above.
Managers are expecting a couple thousand people to stop by for a free frozen treat. They don’t think the threat of snow later in the day will change that.
“There’s buzz about it all year,” said Heather Sayers, the manager of the Rita’s in West Haven. “Basically people think of the first day of spring and we want them to think of Rita’s. So, many people come in here and they’re like, oh we couldn’t wait, we couldn’t wait. For the past couple weeks people have been coming in asking when it is.”
If you’d like to get a free Italian ice there’s still time. There are stores all across the state, including in New London, Farmington, Shelton and Milford.
Rita’s is open until 9 o’clock tonight.
