(WTNH) — It’s Friday and you may still be looking for something to do this weekend. If you’re still trying to make plans we’ve got some ideas for you that are fun for the whole family.

March is here – and if you’re already thinking spring stop by the Naugatuck Valley Home Show. Get some ideas for your spring home improvement projects and meet with local companies. There’s activities and games for the kids. The Home Show will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott this Sunday in Shelton. It starts at noon and it’s free.

Though spring is coming, winter isn’t over yet. If you think you can brave the cold, head to the beach in West Haven on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. It’s Connecticut Brain Freeze, and though you might feel like you’re freezing, you’ll be raising money and awareness for brain tumor programs. Costumes are encouraged!

This weather might not be the best beach weather, but it’s great for maple syrup. Sweeten your Saturday at the Plymouth Maple Festival on the town green. The festivities start at 10 a.m. You’ll learn how to tap sugar maples and see how the sap is made into syrup. What’s even sweeter? It’s free.

March isn’t just a good time for maple syrup, it’s great for marching – as in a parade. A time to celebrate all things Irish, which you can do at Stamford’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Step off is at noon on Saturday at Summer and North Streets. Be sure to wear lots of green!

Dr. Seuss’s birthday was this week, but there’s still time to celebrate! Head to the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford on Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. You’ll listen to a reading of a favorite Dr. Seuss book then make your own craft to take home.

Do you still have ski clothes from the 1980s? Dig them out and wear them to Powder Ridge Mountain Park and Resort in Middlefield. Saturday is Retro Day all day long and there will be a prize for the best outfit. Enter the Big Air and Big Hair Ski and Snowboard Competition while you’re at it.

If you’d like to reach for the stars this weekend, head to Danbury. Western Connecticut State University is hosting a planetarium show and telescope viewing on Saturday at 6 p.m. Take a journey through space without leaving Connecticut. It’s free, and if you’re lucky you may see Jupiter!

Or if you’re feeling the luck of the Irish and want to get in the mood for St. Patrick’s Day a little bit early, head to Norwich. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival is this Sunday at 1 p.m. The parade starts at Ferry Street, so get your seat downtown. The festival will start right after the parade.
