NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Thousands of people across Connecticut fought back against breast cancer Sunday. Several American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks were held throughout the state.

News 8 stopped by the walk at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven. Organizers were expecting about two thousand people at that walk alone. Supporters, caregivers and breast cancer survivors dressed in pink walked to raise money and awareness of the disease.  That money will go toward cancer research and prevention; it will also support those touched by the disease. Participants joined teams to support loved ones who have had the disease and wrote down their reasons for being a part of the walk. Survivors say they’re grateful that so many people come out to support them.

“When you go through all your treatments you always feel that you’re alone,” said Idella Bell, a breast cancer survivor. “By seeing so many supporters it makes me really, really happy that I know I wasn’t alone.”

There were also walks held in Hartford, Westport and Waterbury.
