DEEP RIVER, Conn. (WTNH) — A Bristol woman has died after a car accident in Deep River Saturday afternoon.
Connecticut State Police confirm there was a one-car accident where an SUV rolled over and ended up partially in the water around 3:15 p.m. near 39 Main Street by Winter Avenue. LifeStar was called to the scene of the accident, but could not fly due to the weather.

Police have identified the driver of the SUV as 33-year-old Jennifer Homan of Bristol. She was heading south on Main Street when she went off the road. The SUV rolled and landed upside down in a brook. Homan was trapped inside, but rescuers were able to get her out in minutes. She was taken to Shoreline Medical Center by ambulance, where she died Saturday afternoon.

Multiple ambulances were on the scene with water recovery teams. Deep River Fire Department says the body of water is not deep enough for a boat rescue. Crews from Deep River, Chester, Essex and Old Saybrook also responded to the crash.

When first responders arrived around 4:30 p.m., officials removed the SUV from the water. Main Street reopened about an hour after that.

Officials say Homan was the only person in the vehicle.

“I haven’t seen a lot of accidents,” said Michael Carroll, a neighbor. “I’ve seen the police who check because of frequent speeders.”

The accident is still under investigation.
