CLINTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Clinton police are looking for four men who they believe burglarized and stole several cars in town early Saturday morning. They’re asking the public to help them. They believe the suspects may be from the New Haven area, and that they are armed and dangerous.

The thieves stole items like cash, credit cards and electronics from the cars. They also took a loaded .380 semiautomatic handgun.

Mike Williams is a new homeowner in Clinton. This morning his neighbor told him something that no homeowner wants to hear.

“I found out that he and his girlfriend had their cars burglarized and their wallets were stolen and a lot of money was taken,” said Williams.

Those cars weren’t the only ones targeted. Police believe about 25 vehicles on Ironworks Road, Rocky Ledge Drive, Fairy Dell Road and Hurd Bridge Road were burglarized. Three cars were stolen. The vehicles were all within a couple miles of each other. None of them were locked.

“Please, please lock your cars,” said Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn of the Clinton Police Department. “Please take your keys out of your cars. Please remove all valuables from your cars.”

The suspects used a stolen credit card from one of them at stores in Hamden and Wallingford. One of the businesses caught the suspects on its surveillance cameras. Police now have the still images of four men. They believe there may be more of them, and that they may have targeted Clinton residents before.

“We had an incident similar to this about two weeks ago and we think they may be related, so they happen more frequently than we’d like them to happen,” said Dunn.

Meanwhile, Williams had locked his car and the thieves left it alone. He is now making sure his property stays safe.

“Kind of scary, we don’t have anything to protect our house,” said Williams. “So after I found out I went and got some motion lights and a security camera too.”

Police recovered one of the stolen cars in Hamden Saturday morning after it was involved in a crash.
