NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — As President-elect Donald Trump rounds out his future cabinet, there are still some calling for change. Protesters took to the streets of New Haven Friday night, vowing to keep up the momentum. The rally was much smaller than others held earlier this month, but protesters are looking to keep drawing more attention.
Protesters spoke out against President-elect Donald Trump, his picks for his future cabinet and against the words Trump spoke during his campaign. They say Trump is not their president. Protesters rallied on the New Haven Green, some holding signs. They marched around the Green chanting; some stopped traffic as they held up their signs.
Rachel Turecek organized the rally. She says she was involved with social justice causes before the election and that she did vote. She wants people who feel marginalized by Trump to have a voice.
“With Thanksgiving and December coming up things have been dying down and that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to do this rally now, to keep the momentum going,” said Turecek.
Protesters are planning other demonstrations for next week.
