BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A train station that was set to open nearly two years ago in Branford is on track to open next month.

Representatives from the Department of Transportation met with local leaders and the public Wednesday night to talk about the project and why it was delayed.

The station was scheduled to open in October 2014. However, the project was held back by equipment problems and a retaining wall that needed work.

When the station opens commuters will have the same access to trains as riders in neighboring towns.

“If you’re in Guilford you can get on the trains that go by on either side – the south side and the north side,” said Mark Fullerton, the Chief Project Inspector. “When we open this up there will be a lot more trains that people can get on. The trains are still going back and forth right now but you’ll be able to get on all of them.”

The train station is scheduled to open on September 30.
