HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Saturday is Connecticut Trails Day, and state parks across Connecticut celebrated by fixing up their trails.

News 8 stopped by Brookvale Park in Hamden. Water had eroded one of the trails and volunteers filled the gullies with rock, making the trail safer and easier to use. The park has been participating in Connecticut Trails Day for more than ten years. Some volunteers roll up their sleeves for it every year.

“Part of the message that we like to get across to the people that visit Brooksvale Park is that we like to help them connect with the natural world, connect with nature,” said Brooksvale Park Ranger Vincent Lavorgna.

Volunteers worked on trails in more than 200 locations across the state – and beyond. Saturday was also National Trails Day.
