NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — An especially tough workout at a gym in New Haven honored our fallen heroes this Memorial Day. News 8’s Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons was one of those who finished the workout at CrossFit New Haven.

The workout, known as the “Murph”, is named after Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in 2003. Murphy used to do the workout, which consists of a one mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 squats and second mile run.

CrossFit gyms across the country do the Murph every year on Memorial Day to honor the veterans who have sacrificed so much.

“It’s really powerful to be able to do this workout,” said Aaron Poach, Gym Manager and Head Trainer at CrossFit New Haven. “It’s really tough but everybody pushes a little bit extra today because they know that there’s people that have given so much so that we can do this.”

CrossFit New Haven also honored a local hero on Monday. Captain Andrew Pedersen-Keel of Madison was killed in 2013.
