(WTNH) — The “See Something, Say Something” campaign is being relaunched on Monday. The idea is that if commuters and travelers are alert they can reduce the risk of something happening and keep everyone safer.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation wants to reach commuters who take the trains as well as everyone who uses public transportation.
The DOT wants to remind everyone to be alert, to pay attention to surroundings and to report any suspicious activity. This could be objects that are out of place, including unattended packages, or suspicious behavior in others. This is especially important now with the increase in terrorism around the world.
The campaign was originally launched back in 2007. The Federal Transit Security Grant Program is funding the campaign.
If you see something or someone that you think is suspicious, you’re asked to notify the authorities. If there’s no one nearby for you to go to, call 1-866-HLS-TIPS. You may call the emergency hotline number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, if there is an immediate threat or emergency, call 911.
While it is important to be vigilant, there are no specific or credible threats to Connecticut right now.
