MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — It has now been two years since 16-year-old Maren Sanchez was stabbed to death at Jonathan Law High School in Milford. The community came together Saturday to celebrate her life.
This is the second year the event “Peace, Love & Music from Maren” was held in her honor. It started with a 5K race. There were also inflatables for the kids, plus a kickball tournament and crafts. Many people at the event wore purple, which was Maren’s favorite color. Organizers say this event celebrates everything that Maren was about.
“I knew Maren very well and I think she would be thrilled,” said Fran Thompson, Principal of Jonathan Law High School. “I think she would be right in the thick of it making sure everybody was having a great time and everybody had enough to eat.”
Most of the money raised at the event will go to the Maren Sanchez Memorial Scholarship Fund, which benefits graduating high school seniors in Milford.
