(WTNH) — We’ve got your back if you are looking for some free – and fun – things to do this weekend with your kids. One of them has a unique name – and it has been happening for years.
The Hartford boat show is in its 47th year. On Sunday it’s family day! Children under 12 years old go for free. It is being held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
You can take part in a scavenger hunt and other challenges at the 22nd annual Train Show. This family friendly event is happening at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex. Children under 6 get in for free.
You can help wake up “Essex Ed” from his long winter nap this Sunday on Ferry Street in Essex at the Groundhog Parade. You are encouraged to bring lots of pots and pans and make some noise!
Of course the Hygienic Art festivities start this weekend in downtown New London. It’s in its 37th year and got its name from the Hygienic Restaurant, which closed in 1985. There will be lots of exhibits and performances – including an ice carnival midway Saturday night.
The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury kicks off Black History Month a little bit early. Starting Saturday afternoon there will be musical performances and inspirational stories to help celebrate the important contributions of African Americans.
If you want to learn how to dance, here’s your chance. Each Saturday morning classes are held at the John Martinez School in New Haven. Classes are open to kids and adults – and they’re free!
Watch a movie with your kids for free on Saturday afternoon at the Mystic and Noank Library in Mystic. This week’s movie is Boxtrolls and it starts at 3 o’clock.
The real snow may be melting but you can have fun making some unique paper snowflakes with your kids at the Goodwin Forest Conservation Education Center in Hampton on Sunday afternoon. This event is free!
