NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven firefighters rescued a man who was found unconscious from a home on Marie and Eastern Streets.
Crews were called out to the home early Saturday morning. Garbage workers saw the fire while on their route and called 911. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly.
Firefighters found the man in a back bedroom. They say he passed out from smoke inhalation. Rescuers resuscitated him and he was rushed to the hospital. As of 5 p.m., Fire Chief Marcarelli said he knew the victim was conscious and talking.
At this point, officials have not released the man’s name. They say he’s in his mid 40s and that he was the only person in the house when the fire started. No one else was hurt.
Visible damage to the home could be seen from the street and firefighters had the area blocked off as they tried to figure out what caused the fire. They believe it started in the kitchen.
