BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A music-filled event on Saturday honored a young boy who died this summer in Branford. “Benstock” was about celebrating 10-year-old Ben Callahan’s love of music. It was held at Nuzzo’s Farm in Branford.
Ben drowned in July while swimming with his two brothers, but Benstock was about remembering his life. Benstock – like Woodstock – was about music and so much more. Ben’s dad, Dave Callahan, says this was also a celebration of what his son loved most.
“He would enjoy it. He would be on stage talking to people,” Callahan said. “He’d be playing football over on the side. He would take time to talk to so many of the people that were here.”

Ben was into cooking and enjoyed food, so there were food trucks and there was cake. There was also face painting and there were bands playing all day long.
“I think he would be very proud and I think he would be very happy to see everyone support him,” said Kaylee Tracy of Branford.
This was a fun way for friends, family and the community to come together to remember Ben, whether they wrote a message on the Benstock sign, wore t-shirts supporting the event or danced along with the music.
“It’s just such a blessing because everyone’s showing love for everyone and for Ben,” said Dylan Kealey of Branford. “It’s really nice to show love.”

The festival brought everyone together to remember a 10-year-old boy who touched the lives of so many.
“It’s good to have this event to show how our community can come together in rough times and make the best of it,” said Ella Kelly of Branford.
All the money raised at Benstock will go to the Ben Callahan Foundation.
“It’s a real show, that the world’s a good place,” said Dave Callahan. “We’re just super excited that people are this good.”
