NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — A rally was held outside the National Shooting Sports Foundation in Newtown on Wednesday evening to support the victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Those who attended also called for action on gun control laws.
Po Murray is the chairwoman of Newtown Action Alliance, an advocacy group formed after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. She helped organize the rally.
“Whether you’re a Republican, or a Democrat, or an Independent or unaffiliated, gun violence affects all of us,” Murray said.

People wanted to do something after the shooting in Las Vegas to try to prevent more violence. They held signs calling for stricter gun laws.
“I find it just horrifying that this kind of thing is still happening,” said Harper Stevenson of Bethel.
Not everyone at the vigil agreed that the laws need to change, however. Some believe it’s too soon to call for legislation.
“It just seems like maybe this is a time for mourning and not a time to be calling for bills in Congress yet,” said Holly Sullivan, a gun owner.

Sullivan says those who own guns are sometimes judged unfairly.
“You see a mom like me you might see in a grocery store and you might not know that there’s a firearm on me,” she said. “I’m not a danger to society, and I think that sometimes we get a bad reputation.”
The rally wasn’t just about bringing attention to gun laws. It was also meant as a way to honor the people hurt or killed in Las Vegas. It brought the Newtown community together in solidarity to show its support.
“We’re here to send love to Las Vegas because America sent us love,” said Murray.
