FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH)– Fairfield Police say a man dressed in a bathrobe and in possession of child porn broke into a home to watch a young girl sleep early Friday morning.
Police received a call for help from a home on Tunxis Hill Road at around 5:30 a.m. The resident reported that the family had trapped the man inside.
Police arrested 36-year-old Eric Kusheba. They say he cut through a screen to get into the home and was watching a teenage girl sleep.
“He was wearing at the time a robe and a t-shirt and no other clothing, which is pretty concerning,” said Lt. Bob Kalamaras of the Fairfield Police Department.
Kusheba had brass knuckles in the pocket of the robe. Police later found child pornography on his cell phone.
Many Fairfield residents are relieved that the suspect has been arrested, but they are still feeling a bit uneasy.
“That’s horrible. I have two young daughters at home and I just can’t even imagine someone walking in my house, especially in a bathrobe,” said Peter Rogers of Fairfield.
Police say Kusheba lived near the home he broke into, but he didn’t know the family. Investigators are now going to be talking with neighbors to try to learn more about why he did this.
Many residents are being especially careful to protect their homes.
“Our house is always locked, alarmed even when we’re inside, just for another level of protection,” said Rogers.
Fairfield police are also on high alert. They want to make sure everyone in the neighborhood feels safe.
“We have increased patrols in the area to try to restore a sense of normalcy back to the community,” said Kalamaras.
Kusheba was arrested and charged with home invasion, carrying a dangerous weapon, voyeurism, stalking, criminal mischief, and possession of child pornography. He has a criminal history, including previous assault and bomb manufacturing charges.
Police are warning residents to keep windows shut and locked and to check that all doors are locked at night.
The incident remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact police Fairfield Police at (203)254-4840.
