NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Haven man has died after a double shooting in New Haven on Saturday afternoon.
The city’s ShotSpotter system notified police of gunfire in the area of Dickerman Street between Sperry Street and Orchard Street shortly before 1:30 p.m. Several neighbors also called 911.
Police and firefighters located two men in their 20s who had suffered gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
“We’re just saddened that it even happened, especially in broad daylight in an entirely residential neighborhood,” said Officer David Hartman of the New Haven Police Department.

Officials say 28-year-old Norman Boone of New Haven was pronounced dead. They say the second victim remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
Maria Whitfield has lived in the neighborhood for about seven years. She saw the two men lying in the road before first responders arrived.
“I just told him to calm down. I was rubbing his arm. I was just telling him to calm down and not move,” Whitfield said. “My heart is broken. It’s broken right now.”
Dickerman Street was closed for hours as detectives tried to figure out what happened. Many neighbors heard the gunfire.
This is the city’s third homicide of the year. Police don’t yet know if the victims were targeted. Neighbors say Dickerman Street is usually quiet.
“Seeing that there’s a lot of kids that live on this street, being a father myself, it’s kind of concerning,” said Nicholas Russo, a neighbor.
Many neighbors are nervous – now and for the months ahead.
“Summer’s coming, people are going to be scared to go outside,” said Semaj Merrill. “I live around here. Should I feel safe coming outside?”
