PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) — Police have located the body of a missing Plainville man that never returned after going hiking last Saturday.
Police confirm that the body of 64-year-old Arthur Williams, of Plainville, was located deep in the woods Wednesday afternoon. Williams was last seen walking westbound on North Mountain Road in New Britain, near Pinnacle Mountain, on the Metacomet Trail System.

Police were able to cover more ground while searching on Wednesday than they did over the past few days. They used dogs, drones, and the State Police helicopter to search for Williams. They were not able to use the chopper before Wednesday because of the weather, and that is how they found Williams. They were able to search an area they had not yet checked.
“We hadn’t gotten to this portion yet. We were focusing more on an area where we thought he would be, where he was last seen,” said Lt. Eric Peterson of the Plainville Police Department.
Williams was an experienced hiker, and knew the trail he was walking well. Police said the trails in that area are treacherous.

Police found Williams in the woods off North Mountain Road. They say he did not have a cell phone.
“He didn’t speak to anybody before he left,” said Peterson. “He had material with him – it looked like he was on a day hike.”
Williams’ family was notified of his death on Wednesday. The official cause of death has not yet been determined, pending examination of Williams’ body. Though it is still early, police say at this point there are no signs of foul play.
“It’s good that we were able to find him and bring him home so [the family] could have some closure,” said Peterson.
