NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The New Haven community came together Sunday to make the holidays a bit brighter for kids in need.
People brought new, unwrapped toys to the city’s Department of Public Works, where they could place their donations in a city vehicle. The goal was to fill them up. The toys will be given to children at the city’s annual Winter Wonderland Party later this month. Organizers were hoping to get at least 500 toy donations today. They say there’s a great need for toys in New Haven around the holidays.
“We want to take that load and burden off from them losing their jobs and not being able to support or to supply anything for their children, to be able to have something,” said City of New Haven Inspector Honda Smith, who helped organize the event. “This is to bring back a sense of togetherness for the family.”
If you’d like to donate there’s still time. You can drop unwrapped toys off at the Department of Public Works building until December 20th.
