NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Shoppers across the state were in stores early Friday morning looking to get a jumpstart on their holiday shopping and find the best deals. Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

News 8 stopped by Target in North Haven to see what shoppers were buying. The store opened at 6 o’clock Thursday night. Some shoppers, like Stephanie Sheades, started their shopping Thursday night and went back out on Friday morning.

“The shopping this morning is very quick lines,” she said. “Last night you were waiting at least 20 to 30 minutes in line. Some stores you were waiting even up to an hour to cash out.”

Folks brought their shopping lists, checked them twice and then checked out. They left the store with carts full of presents to be wrapped. Though some headed in just to see what was marked down, others had something special in mind.

“I’m looking for kids’ toys,” said shopper Jahnnitza Lopez. “Kids’ toys, that’s about it, and PJs.”

“I got a Blu-ray for four dollars which was pretty impressive,” said Tricia Perrone.

Target employees expected the store to be busy. Many were working Thursday afternoon getting the store ready. Besides toys, electronics have been a big seller this year.

“We saw a little bit of an increase last night at store opening,” said Andi Lett, the Store Team Leader. “I would say right now it’s very consistent with what we’ve seen last year when we opened up at six o’clock as well.”

Many shoppers are out in stores early on Black Friday every year. It has become a tradition for some of them. They say it’s worth it to brave the crowds and the early morning wake up call to find those bargains. Some shoppers enjoy it for more than just the savings, however, and that’s what keeps them coming back each year.

“The best is the excitement of going shopping at all hours of the morning,” said Sheades.

This is one of the busiest weekends of the year for shopping and it’s not over on Sunday. Shoppers are already gearing up for Cyber Monday.
