WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two men have died and two more are wounded after a shooting in the parking lot of the Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford Friday night.

Just after 11:00 p.m., the crowd attending a concert from rapper Meek Mill was beginning to leave the theater after the conclusion of the show. Shots were fired in one of the parking lots outside of the theater, with four men suffering gunshot wounds. Police found chaos when they arrived.

A fan waiting for the rapper to leave the theater took a video and posted it online. Police say the gunfire was about 100 yards away. There was no surveillance video from the venue or from neighboring businesses.

Connecticut State Police have identified the deceased victims as 31-year-old Travis Ward, and 20-year-old Jaquan Graves, both of New Haven. Two other men suffered non life-threatening injuries. They were both treated and released from hospitals last night. Their identities have not been released.

According to State Police, the two surviving victims are not believed to be directly involved with the incident. Both men were interviewed by police after their release from the hospital.

The State Police Major Crime Division was called in to assist with the investigation and interview several witnesses. Police are unsure if there is more then one shooter and are unaware of what the motive may have been. After their initial investigation, officials do not believe the incident is directly related to the artist, Meek Mill.

“It appears that the two who were fatally wounded were a target of some sort,” said Lt. Cheryl Bradley of the Wallingford Police Department.

The theater has its own security, though it tried to hire a police officer Friday afternoon. Wallingford police were not able to send an officer. Police say a violent crime like this is unusual.

“I don’t remember there ever being a homicide or even a serious injury at any show up there,” said Bradley.

On Saturday, rapper Meek Mill posted a video on Instagram denying that the shootings took place.

The Associated Press reports that Mill, whose real name is Robert Williams, was recently under house arrest after violating probation for the fourth time in eight years.

If you witnessed this shooting, or have any information that could help police in their investigation, you’re asked to call Wallingford police at 203-294-2800.
