MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — You may not think of taking your kids to the mall this Halloween, but that’s exactly what many parents will be doing. The Connecticut Post Mall in Milford will be open to trick-or-treaters on Monday.

Store employees will be handing out candy from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The idea is that this will eliminate many of the dangers of trick-or-treating. Instead of going door to door this Halloween, kids will be going store to store to get their candy.

Chrissy Schoeman and her kids came to the Connecticut Post Mall last year on Halloween to go trick-or-treating.

“It was just another opportunity for them to go out and have fun and then be inside and wear costumes,” she said. “It was fun. It was a good time.”

Most of the stores in the mall – including Claire’s Boutique – will be welcoming the trick-or-treaters. Store Manager Tiffany Robinson is looking forward to it.

“They light up. They’re very excited,” Robinson said. “The smiling faces are pretty awesome. They’re more excited to show off their costumes sometimes.”

About 3,000 people celebrated Halloween at the mall last year. The mall will be transformed into a big family-friendly Halloween party again this year. Organizers are hoping it won’t just be fun, it’ll be a safer way for kids to go trick-or-treating.

“You don’t have to worry about cars [or] the weather. Kids don’t have to wear coats over their costumes,” said Danielle Reiss, Marketing Manager for the Connecticut Post Mall.

Besides candy for the kids, stores will have special deals for the parents. But those who have brought their kids to the mall to go trick-or-treating in the past say the best part is watching their kids enjoy Halloween – safely.

“It was light out, it wasn’t dark,” said Schoeman. “We could see everything that was going on, so we liked that part about it.”

Stores that are participating will have signs up to let families know. For a list of those stores and for more information about the event, click here.
