WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hundreds of people laced up their running shoes in Wethersfield Sunday morning for Jamie’s Run. Jamie was a baby girl who died of a rare liver cancer when she was just five and a half months old. More than 700 participants gathered at the starting line for the 5K, Charity walk and kids run. There was also entertainment for the whole family.
The event honored Jamie’s memory while raising money for pediatric cancer research. The money raised also helps support families of kids going through treatment. Jamie’s parents, who organize the event, say participants make a difference for kids and families who are going through cancer treatment.
“We’re funding research that’s really cutting edge at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center,” said Kurt Knotts, Jamie’s father. “It’s improving treatments, it’s targeting cancers down to the genomic level.”
“It’s just so comforting to know that people care about you even if you don’t really know them, that people are out there trying to help you,” said Kelly Knotts, Jamie’s mother.
This is the sixth year of the event, which has raised more than $120,000 for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.
