MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A Meriden woman has died after she and her daughter were hit by a car on Friday evening.
Police are now looking for the driver, who did not stop. It happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday on Springdale Avenue near Lewis Avenue.

When police arrived they found the woman lying partially under an SUV parked on the street. They have identified her as 40-year-old Dania Cegeno-Delrosario. She was taken to Midstate Medical Center and then flown to Hartford Hospital, where she died.
David Badillo lives around the corner from where the driver hit the mother and daughter. He got there shortly after the accident.
“I just had two deaths in my family. On top of that it just helps you realize you’re not the only one going through bad times,” he said. “A daughter lost her mother.”
Badillo is a Certified Nursing Assistant, and he rushed over to try to help. But he says it was too late.
“When I got over there she wasn’t moving, she wasn’t talking,” he said.
Cegeno-Delrosario was holding her 7-year-old daughter’s hand as they tried to cross the street. She was thrown when the car hit her and she suffered a severe head injury. Her daughter was not seriously hurt.
“She saved her daughter from being hit,” said Badillo. “She pushed her daughter out of the way and she got hit by the car.”
The driver didn’t stop, and police are not sure how fast the car was going. Police are now looking for a dark colored sedan. They expect it will have damage on the driver’s side bumper, hood and door. It’s also missing a side view mirror.
“From a piece of the vehicle that was left at the scene we ran a part number and it came back to possibly a Nissan,” said Sgt. Stanley Zajac of the Meriden Police Department.
Police are now following several leads, trying to find that car. Neighbors, shaken by the accident, hope it won’t take long.
“Somebody should say something,” said Badillo. “There’s a daughter without a mother today, and it could have been the daughter, who was only 7 years old.”
