NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Most high school freshmen are busy with homework and sports after school. But three sisters – triplets – from Bozrah are busy running their very own charity.
Paige, Madison, and Sydney Martin just started their freshman year of high school in Norwich. They have been helping their grandfather with his foundation since they were young kids. However, several months ago they decided to start their own. Their organization is already helping others around the United States and the world.
The charity, called ‘Kids Who Help Kids’, provides children in need with backpacks and school supplies.
“I like just seeing the smiles on people’s faces when we give them the backpacks,” said Madison Martin, the social media coordinator for the organization.
This summer the girls brought backpacks to kids in Pocahontas County, West Virginia.
“It’s the most amazing thing in the world, the looks on their faces when they get it, just a simple backpack with some school supplies in it,” said Sydney Martin, the organization’s treasurer.
The sisters aren’t just helping kids in the United States. Their charity is paying for a 12-year-old girl in India to go to school. They’re hoping to eventually help more kids like her for many years to come.
“I’m pretty sure all of us want to keep it going even through college and after college,” said Madison.
The girls have had some help along the way. Their grandfather is letting them use an office space in Norwich for their charity, which is now a tax-exempt nonprofit. They had a little bit of help with that too.
“It was hard because you don’t see many kids on the IRS website…my mom and I sat down every night and we filled out the paperwork,” said Paige Martin, the organization manager.
Their hard work paid off. Now they’re running their very own charity at just 14 years old and hoping to continue reaching out to kids in need.
“We’ve always been helping but it still feels pretty cool that we opened this by ourselves and now we’re starting this by ourselves,” said Madison.
Kids Who Help Kids has already helped more than 100 children.
