MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH)– A state representative is pushing to make a stretch of road in Milford safer after two people were hit by cars within 48 hours. Both those accidents happened on Bridgeport Avenue late last month.
News 8 spoke with State Representative Kim Rose. She says Bridgeport Avenue from the I-95 exit 34 intersection to the Devon center is the most dangerous section of roadway in Milford.
Three weeks ago, Amanda Keane of Stratford was getting into her car after work when she was hit by a car at the intersection of Bridgeport and Woodland Avenues. The driver didn’t stop, and police are still looking for the that person. Keane was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Two days later, a 14-year-old boy was hit by a car at the intersection of Bridgeport Avenue and Camden Street. That driver did stop.
Rose is now working with the Milford Police Department as well as the Connecticut Department of Transportation. They’ll be doing some work in the area to make it easier for drivers and pedestrians to get around.

“I’ve immediately asked for the DOT to come out and paint the crosswalks at the bridge. They’re nonexistent, and the striping on the roadway to show cars where they have to stop at the light is nonexistent. That I expect to be done quickly,” said Rose.
On Friday Rose requested a traffic study be done on the area. Crews will be check the timing of the traffic lights and they’ll determine if the speed limit needs to be changed.
Rose expects it’ll take about two months to complete.
