NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — New Haven police are investigating the stabbing death of a 50-year-old man.
Police were called to a first floor apartment at 195 Saltonstall Avenue just after 5:30 on Sunday morning. The caller reported someone inside had been stabbed and needed help. Police are now following several leads, though at this point they aren’t saying what those are.
Maria Quinones lived in that apartment for 7 years. She still lives in the neighborhood.
“I see the police, I get scared,” she said. “I see the yellow [police tape] and I say oh, what happened?”
Later on Sunday police had an area in front of the building blocked off as they tried to figure out exactly what happened. A neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, told News 8 she saw the police arrive.
“I saw the flashing lights, I got a little nervous, and that was it,” she said. “I saw them being taken out on the gurney.”
The man was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died about 5 hours later. Police have identified him as James Edward Foley. He lived on State Street in New Haven. Police are now investigating it as a homicide.
“I did hear someone arguing, but I didn’t really pay any mind,” said Alyssa Tomaselli. “Then when I woke up this morning I seen the tape.”
Neighbors are horrified that this happened here. Some of them say they already don’t feel safe, but others disagree.
“I’d rather not live out here with my kids,” said Tomaselli. “I don’t want to raise my kids out here.”
“It’s fine, sometimes some problems, but it’s okay,” said Quinones.
Police say they believe Foley was targeted by his killer and there is no threat to the public.
