MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Despite this morning’s rain, hundreds of people walked or ran in the Milford Hospital Mother’s Day 5K. It was a way for families to spend some time together on Mother’s Day while raising money for a good cause.

Even though it’s held on Mother’s Day the event is all about wellness. All of the money raised will go toward Milford Hospital’s health and wellness events and programs.

This was the 20th year of the race. Donna Cramond has come every year. Her son has been doing it with her since he was about ten years old.

“He’s 25 now. He came home for Mother’s Day and I told him it would be my Mother’s Day gift if he came out, got out of bed, so he did,” she said.

It’s something many families do together, and they look forward to the race every year. Parents and kids lined the starting line; even the smallest members of the family were in it.

“I love that it’s on Mother’s Day and it starts your day off healthy,” said Jamie Beaudette, who attended the race with her children. “I love that the kids can do it with you. And it’s just a good family event.”

Besides the exercise there was wellness information about screenings and prevention programs.

Despite the rainy morning, hundreds of participants were ready to go.

“I like the camaraderie,” said Cramond. “Even though it might be a gloomy day like this, it brightens up by just being here.”

This was just the start of the day – many of the moms at the race were looking forward to the rest of their Mother’s Day too.

“A nap and maybe a little pampering from my kiddos,” said Beaudette.

“Relax with the family for the rest of the day. They’re going to cook,” said Cramond. “I also said I’d rather they did the dishes too, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen or not.”
