(WTNH) — It’s Mother’s Day weekend – are you looking for something fun to do with Mom or as a family? We’ve got some ideas for you – and some of them are free.
Want to make something sweet for Mom this Mother’s Day? Head to Lyman Orchards on Saturday for the Mother’s Day Cake Decorating Workshop. Kids will get to be creative and try their hand at cake decorating – with icing, gooey gumdrops and sparkly sugars. Workshops start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
If you’d like to get the family outside this weekend, head to Harbor Park in Middletown. The Feet to the Fire: Riverfront Encounter Festival is this Saturday starting at noon. Listen to live music, explore the craft fair or stop by one of the food trucks. And it’s free.
It’s Mother’s Day weekend – and that means it’s time for ArtWalk 2016. The community-based arts festival takes place in Westville Village in New Haven. It starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Check out the live music and theater performances, plus art making activities for the kids. And it’s free.
Are you looking to spend some time together as a family this Mother’s Day weekend? Head to The Dinosaur Place in Montville for the May Dino Egg Hunt. Search the dinosaur trails for hidden eggs and go home with a prize. It starts at 10:30 on Saturday morning.
If you’d really like to treat mom this weekend, why not take her on a cruise? You don’t even have to leave Connecticut – just head to Eagle Landing State Park in Haddam. There are departures at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. You’ll learn about nature and history. Moms are half price.
Would you like to find something that the whole family can do together this Mother’s Day weekend? Head to Yantic – where you’ll see 3,000 rubber ducks launched into the Yantic River. Play some games with your kids or check out the arts and crafts. That’s at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Yantic Fire Department.
Whether you’re Greek or not, you’ll have a great time at the Greek Festival in Waterbury. Celebrate Greek culture and enjoy food, live music and dancing at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. It starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. There are activities for the kids, and it’s free.
Want to do something for a great cause on Saturday? Lace up your sneakers and head to Sherwood Island State Park in Westport for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Fairfield County. Money raised will go toward breast cancer treatment, screening, education and research. It gets started at 7:45 a.m. News 8’s Renee Chmiel will be this year’s Honorary Chair – see you there!
